- These are not only the policies of On the Stage, but basic information about the program. If at any time you have any questions, or concerns, please talk with me, I am here for your child to learn and get the best possible experience, I am very open minded, and love feedback from parents.
- Cell – 503-740-2145 (text messages welcome)
- For ages 7 and above
- The students audition in front of the other members, each child can audition for as many parts as possible and the other members silently vote on who they thought did the best acting job for that particular part. If it comes to a tie, then the director, Valerie will make the final decision.
- If there is a part that the child really does not want and/or an there are too many children compared to character parts, then as a team we create another character that would work for that student.
- My end goal is that everyone’s part is as unique as they wanted.
- Each member is asked if they would like to do a (1)solo (2)duet (3)sing in a group (4)no singing. With the information they give me, I then create the musical.
- All members are required to do one cast dance routine.
- For ages 3-6 yeas
- Each child will be told the story and then asked to pick out three of their favorite characters. Then I will pick who best fits the part by personality, size, and age for memorization.
- They are informed of their part in a unique manner – We have letters that come from a special character from one of the musical characters itself!!! It’s loads of fun!
- Each week you will receive a script on what we did in the previous week. I will be basing lines on what they say, do, or feel, and how well they are memorizing. I want them to feel confident and comfortable.
- Attendance
- If you cannot attend a practice, please contact me. 503-740-2145

- No eating during or at show, or an hour before your show starts
- Water is a good thing!!!
- Belongings
- Make sure you and child is responsible for their items, On the Stage is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Please bring a marked bag that your child is able to put all of their belongings in (including shoes) until the show has ended.
- Visiting people
- When bringing friends to a show, always make sure that they are with an adult, they will not be able to “hang out.”
- Please make sure that your parents have saved a seat before they come back to help you get ready for the performance. (if applicable)
- Audience Members
- Our musicals are always clean and appropriate for all ages, however children under the age of 5 get very antsy and begin to make noise during the play. Noise from the audience is very distracting and if a distraction accures, a staff member will ask the child to be promptly removed from the audience. I ask that all children under the age of 5 years old have a parent/babysitter within the audience that will remove them from the audience if this happens. It is best to have children under 5 years of age to stay at home with a babysitter. Thank you for your understanding.
- We work very hard on our musicals, and the focus is about your children.
- Need adult volunteers
- Staff/Volunteers only are allowed in the classroom when we are working on the play. This allows for the littlest of distractions and takes use of our time in the most productive way.
- Volunteers are allowed in the classroom under the following guidelines:
- Must be a positive adult role model
- No yelling or profanity tolerated
- Need to treat children with respect, dignity, and a positive attitude
- Must be willing to be supportive, caring, & helpful
- Must follow Valerie’s directions
- Volunteer waiver must be signed
- These guidelines are strictly enforced and failure to adhere to the said guidelines will result in losing volunteer privileges.
- We will always need volunteers
- I will always need a number of adults to help in these areas, please let me know how you can help so that your child’s show can be at its best.
- Helping with costumes
- Helping with keeping kids in order
- Watching the children, right, before they walk on stage
- Show clean up.
- Just general help!
